Did you know, this year, about 562,340 Americans are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is currently the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease. In the US, cancer accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths. Because of this, it’s important that we all pull together to help find a cure. Everyone can help in the fight against cancer because every little bit counts; it doesn’t matter that you can only contribute a $5 donation or that you can give a $2,500 donation. We’re all in this together!
As we all know, I was diagnosed and treated for Stage 1 Testicular Cancer in October of 2009. I know that I was extremely lucky that it was caught early and that it has a higher survival rate (96%) than most. Moreover, I didn’t have to suffer as much as other people had suffered during their bouts with cancer; looking around in the chemo ward showed me that during my treatment. I only had to have one dose of chemo, I was only nauseous for a few days, I didn’t lose my hair, I didn’t lose any weight and I had a quick turnaround with my health. Others are simply not that lucky. I’m also lucky in that we have doctors who are skilled enough to be able to help people like me.
Because of this, I’m even more willing to show just how far I’m willing to go to help in finding a cure! So how can you help me with my goal? I initially tweeted that I wanted to raise $200+ for Nash County’s Relay for Life that takes place on April 23-24, 2010. However, after much thought, I decided to raise the stakes so to speak. I want to raise as much money as I can! To me, I should be able to raise more than just $200 for Relay for Life.
What am I willing to do in exchange for your generous donations? If I can raise at least $500 by April 15, 2010, I will shave off all of my hair minus a mohawk, a PURPLE mohawk! That’s right! I will dye it purple to go along with Relay For Life colors.
As you can see below I need a hair cut so let’s turn this hair of mine into a purple mohawk by donating today!
